Some of my favorite paintings are never the ones you see hanging in galleries or listed in my online shop.

They're the ones that begin with a conversation.

Usually it starts with someone telling me about a place.

Not just any place—but their place.

Maybe it's the little white church where they were married.

The family home where children learned to ride their bikes in the driveway.

A wedding venue where one unforgettable day changed everything.

A grandparent's farmhouse that's been standing for generations.

A beloved business that's been part of the community for decades.

Or a front porch where countless evenings were spent watching the sunset.

Every one of those places has a story.

Every one holds memories that deserve to be remembered.

That's why I love painting them.

More Than a Painting

People sometimes ask what inspires me to paint architecture, homes, churches, and meaningful places.

The answer is simple.

I'm not really painting buildings.

I'm painting memories.

I've always believed that places have a remarkable ability to transport us back in time. One glance at a familiar home or a favorite street corner can bring back the sounds, the smells, the laughter, and even the people who made those moments special.

That's what fascinates me.

Watercolor has a softness to it that feels nostalgic. The gentle washes of color, the loose edges, and the subtle details seem perfectly suited for telling stories rather than simply documenting structures.

When someone unwraps one of my paintings, I don't want their first thought to be, "That's a beautiful house."

I hope their first thought is...

"I remember."

Every Commission Begins With a Story

One of the greatest privileges of being an artist is hearing the stories behind the places I paint.

Sometimes a client tells me about the home where their children grew up before moving away.

Sometimes it's the church where generations of their family have gathered for weddings, baptisms, and Sunday mornings.

Sometimes it's a wedding venue that represents one of the happiest days of their lives.

I've painted homes that are no longer standing.

Family properties that have been sold.

Historic buildings that helped shape a community.

Each commission reminds me that a painting isn't just about preserving architecture.

It's about preserving a moment in someone's life.

That's a responsibility I never take lightly.

Why I Open My Christmas Commission Calendar Early

Here's something most people don't realize.

Every year, around September, my inbox begins filling with requests for custom Christmas paintings.

At first it's just a few.

Then a few more.

And before long, my calendar fills much faster than I ever expect.

By October, I usually have to stop accepting commissions altogether—not because I want to, but because I simply don't have enough time to create each painting with the care and attention it deserves before Christmas.

One of the hardest parts of my job is telling someone, "I'm so sorry, but I can't fit another commission in this season."

I know those paintings are often meant to become incredibly meaningful gifts.

They're surprises for parents.

Anniversary presents.

Wedding gifts.

Memorial keepsakes.

Christmas gifts that bring tears to someone's eyes when they open them.

Turning someone away is never easy.

That's why I've learned something over the years.

The best time to plan for Christmas isn't October.

It isn't September.

It's actually August.

Why August Is the Sweet Spot

I know.

It's still hot outside.

We're all sweating through another Southern summer, and Christmas feels a lifetime away.

But August is actually the perfect time to reserve a custom painting.

It gives me plenty of time to carefully plan your artwork.

It allows me to paint thoughtfully instead of rushing.

It gives your painting the attention it deserves.

And perhaps most importantly, it gives you peace of mind knowing your gift will be finished in time for Christmas.

No last-minute scrambling.

No wondering if you'll make the deadline.

Just the excitement of knowing something truly meaningful is already in the works.

A Gift That Becomes Part of a Family's Story

One of my favorite things about creating commissioned paintings is imagining where they'll end up.

Sometimes they'll hang above a fireplace.

Sometimes they'll become the centerpiece of a hallway gallery wall.

Sometimes they'll be wrapped in Christmas paper and opened on Christmas morning.

Years later, they'll still be there.

Long after trends have changed.

Long after technology has moved on.

Long after the wrapping paper has been thrown away.

That's the beauty of original art.

I often think about future grandchildren walking through someone's home and asking,

"What's that painting?"

And someone smiling before telling the story behind it.

That's what I hope every painting becomes.

Because I used to own a wedding planning and design business, I understand how deeply people connect with meaningful places.

I've Opened Just 10 Commission Spots

Because each painting is created by hand and receives my full attention, I intentionally limit the number of commissions I accept during the Christmas season.

This year, I've opened just 10 commission spots.

Once those are filled, I'll begin a waiting list, and as the season gets busier, I may have to close my commission calendar altogether.
