Seasons of Creativity

I go through seasons of extreme creativity and prolific art creation. And then I’ll go through seasons of what feels like creative burnout and a need to rest.

I used to try to just power through and then I finally figured out many years later that this just made the burnout season cycles more frequent.

So, this year, I have discovered that if I document in my sketchbook as much as possible, these seasons tend to level out a lot more. Plus, I’m a lot happier and it’s just…… fun!

This one was just using a ballpoint pen. Then I went back and shaded with some watercolor markers.

Last weekend, I spent some much-needed time resting for Memorial Day alone while my family went to the lake. I puled up some beautiful pictures of places in Florida and decided to sketch those. It was just what I needed.

I also enjoy taking sketchbook classes occasionally. I enjoy learning how other more seasoned artists create their sketchbook layouts and I enjoy experimenting with various styles. It’s fun and important, I think, to constantly learn and express ourselves in different ways.

And last weekend we celebrated another graduation, so I started sketching on site and I’m going to finish these travel pages at home this week.
